Glory Cruise By Riptide, Play Another Day

Glory Cruise By Riptide, Play Another Day
Dignon drives in four, every Glory starter gets a hit

KIMBERLY, WISC -- The Glory sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning with, eight reaching base, and took an early lead to rout the Riptide 11-2 and remain in the hunt for their second consecutive NPF championship Saturday afternoon at Sunset Park in Kimberly, Wisc.  The win eliminated the Riptide from championship contention.

The Glory used teammwork in the first inning to score their runs.  A double-steal attempt was thwarted after both Nicole Barber and LaDonia Hughes reached on bunt singles.  After the third hit of the inning, a single by Amber Jackson, Oli Keohohou got the Glory their first playoff lead of this year's postseason with a single to left.  Sara Larquier walked to load the bases before Courtney Bures singled to make it 2-0.  Jessica Dignon would then reach on a fielder's choice forcing Bures and making it 3-0.  Dignon stole second and on the throw, Larquier came in to score but the throw sailed into center field allowing Dignon to head to third where she would score to make it 5-0 on a single by Callie Piper. ...

Glory Lose First Playoff Game to Philadelphia

Glory Lose First Playoff Game to Philadelphia
Can't survive four-run first inning

KIMBERLY, WISC. -- The Washington Glory could not find the same magic from 2007 in their first playoff game of 2008 as they fell to the Philadelphia Force 7-4 on Friday night in Kimberly, Wisc.

The Glory, who were down 4-0 after the first inning, fought back and had the tying run at the plate in the seventh inning when the game ended just after midnight eastern time.  It's the first post-season loss in Glory history.

The Force jumped on board in the first inning by scoring four runs, three on a home run by Savannah Long off starter Taryne Mowatt.  Mowatt would last only 2/3 of an inning, striking out one and throwing two wild pitches in taking the loss. ...

Glory Drowned by Riptide

Glory Drowned by Riptide
Only two hits for second game in a row

LOWELL, MASS --
The Washington Glory headed into Lowell, Mass. needing four wins to solidify their second straight NPF regular season championship but could do no better than a pair of hits in losing 4-0 in the first of a four-game series to the Riptide on Thursday night.

Jackie Pasquerella and Lisa Modglin both drove in a pair of runs off Sarah Pauly (11-5) while Eileen Canney (12-10) struck out seven in getting the complete-game shut-out victory.

Nicole Barber and LaDonia Hughes each delivered hits for the Glory who could not find a way to drive the runners home.  The Glory have now be two-hit in their second consecutive game, however took a 4-1 victory over Akron last Monday as both hits were home runs.

The Glory is now tied for the top spot in the NPF with the Chicago Bandits at 29-16.  Philadelphia, who was rained out in their game against Akron, will play a double header on Friday and are one game out of first place.  New England moves into the fourth and final playoff spot in the NPF while Akron and Rockford are one game out of the final spot.

The Glory and Riptide play game two of this season-ending four-game series on Friday night at 7:05 at the Martin Softball Field.

Keohohou hits 13th to win the game

CHANTILLY, VA -- There were signs of 2007 as Amber Jackson and Oli Keohohou each hit home runs while Keohohou hit the final home run of the home season for the Glory who swept Akron with a 4-1 victory on Monday night.
